A minority even here

Huh. I shower, don’t play WoW, and I have a girlfriend.
Apparently that makes me “not normal” at my school.

the decline of humanity is partially my fault

So, the idea that technology makes us more connected to each other is all lies. How do I know? I help make that technology. Ok, so it’s more of a misconception. Technology allows us to become more connected to groups and ideas, but the format in which technology is presented makes us less connected to the human beings around us, and less able to deal directly with other human beings in a traditionally acceptable fashion.

I thought it was bad enough a in ‘01 when the mother of my child broke up with me via email.

Now? I hear tales of people breaking up with each other via text message, and the two people are in the same room.

Technology is starting to replace the human experience rather than complement it. I find myself in a position to complain about this. I complain about most things, but this I have the right to complain about for the following reason:

I’m working to fix it.

That’s right. I don’t think I can really complain unless I’m trying to do something to fix the problem. And that’s actually why I “do software.” Software sucks, and I want to make it suck less. Now I know you all think I’m crazy (more than normal). And I am. But apparently, so are other people. Let me show you.

One of my friends was getting laid and stopped to respond to a text message. Do I really even need to start on how wrong that is?

/me rubs his temples in disgust.

Thoughts from a day at the theatre

I had the amazing opportunity to see Miss Saigon today.
For lack of better words, that shit was some heavy dope.
As I left the theatre, I couldn’t help but think of my father.
Never met the guy, but I know that he got drafted into Vietnam twice.
I doubt he ever killed anyone or anything like that, but I do wonder what kind of stupid shit he did there. I mean, I got my stupidity from somewhere, and it wasn’t from Momma Doom. He had to have gotten into shenanigans there, and I’m kind of curious as to what they were. Not that I care enough to actually track them down, but I wonder if he had any war buddies that would know about his experiences…
